Coming along nicely...

So more or less, MOST of the engine has been written for Altair! It can now load in levels, create instances and store their pointers in a list so that I can access them later. It outputs an error in the terminal if it finds an error in the level file.

Sorry about the large image... My screen is 1080p so... :P
Anyway, as you can see the program has loaded in 2 player ships from the txt file. And tried to load one in from the third... but there were not enough attributes defined to continue in the creation, so it output an error in the Command Line.

On a different note,  I've given up completely on the "Game Boy" style art for the game. I'm going to use placeholders until I can find a decent artist. For music, I don't know what I'm going to do... But I have decided on one thing! The final boss will be featuring the Death Waltz! Of course when and if I find a composer then I'll make sure it's mixed around to feature different sounds and not just a piano to make it a lot cooler!

Thanks,

-+Altair+- [A step backwards]

Once it came time to start programming Gears... I realized that I am WAY to far ahead of myself. I didn't really know my programming language of choice, and I didn't even know a good library to handle all the multimedia in the game itself! So I hit the books and got to learning. Tyler (GZ) helped me out IMMENSELY, and taught me some of the parts of C++ I was having trouble with. So I now know the basics of C++, and SFML, and I'm ready to make games!
In one of his interviews, Notch gave this advice to starting game developers "Try making a small a game, and actually finishing it or sumfing (something with Notch's accent)." So I decided that he's probably right, and instead of diving right into Gears, I should probably work on a smaller, easier game, and actually finish it. That easier game, is Altair.
Altair Concept Art
Altair is a small Game Boy style SHMUP. Although this may be a small title, I'm definitely making sure this isn't lame. The picture shown above is just a little concept art thing on how the game will look when finished... although I will be scaling everything to 2X so that the images are more easy to see. I'm not ready to release any information on the game, as I've still yet to decide some of the features.
Currently, in it's development it's nothing more than an idea, a couple sprites and sounds, and a test parser. School has been beating me to death so I rarely have time to work on the game. Although, I'll continue work on it whenever I have the time. ^_^

    You're welcome, Rawr. :P

The Move from Tumblr to Blogger

So you're probably wondering "Why did you make a blogger, Logan? You already have a Tumblr." And there is one big reason for this. Blogger has better features than Tumblr. Overall I have more freedom, and can do more things with my development blog here. So expect the latest news on Project Gears to go here.
